Under the Sea

I could also have titled this post "Why I want a sea otter!".

Whilst in Lisbon my friend and I decided to visit their aquarium. Its out of the main historic area and situated in the part of Lisbon where there was an Expo in 1998.
The area itself made a nice change from the quaint streets we had been wandering, and instead there was lots of metal and steel. But still the main attraction was the rather large shark tank awaiting us, and it didn't disappoint. Every corner seemed to provide a new perspective, and given the time I could have just sat down and watched the sharks and rays for hours. That said the sea otters nearly stole the show, and if nothing else when I reincarnate I want to come back as a sea otter, as they seemed to have so much fun just swimming around a causing mischief.

The Night Train to Lisbon

"We leave something of ourselves behind when we leave a place. We stay there, even though we go away. And there are things in us that we can find again only by going back there. We travel to ourselves when we go to a place. Now we have covered the stretch of our lives, no matter how brief it may have been." - Amadeu (Pascal Mercier)

The last few months have been a real roller coaster, but one of the few things keeping me going was the knowledge that just around the corner I would have a month full of short working weeks (thank you May Bank Holidays!) and a trip to a City that has long been on my bucket list, with one of my closest friends, whom I never get to see quite enough!
Despite the slightly extortionate air fair, Lisbon more than lived up to its reputation as the perfect city for lovers of food, wine and photography!
I can confirm the food and wine were both excellent, but I would recommend you avoid the Ginja (Cherry liqueur) if you want to travel home without the mother of all hangovers!
